Location: Toronto, ON Job Title: Telecommunications – Mobile RF Field Test Engineer
Position Overview:
The candidate will be a member of the Terminal Certification Lab and, as such, will test PCS/iDEN devices in wireless networks. This is done in the field using computer-controlled receivers and phones. The equipment collects both over-the-air messaging and RF data which can be reviewed and processed in the office. In addition, the field specialist’s responsibilities include verification and assessment of new phones and/or network features, as well as the planning and execution of specific test plans for PCS/iDEN devices. He/she will also contribute to the development of processes, methodologies, testing techniques and product development.
Roles/Responsibilities:
● Identify issues, collect data in field and track resolution with vendor or project prime;
● Operate and maintain the drive test tools and equipment;
● Write technical reports for each device evaluated.
Required Qualifications:
● Experience with drive test tools: Spirent UDM or Qualcomm CAIT and PST Tools;
● Basic knowledge in L1, L2, & L3 messaging and call processing;
● Familiar with CDG, IS-2000 and IS-856 standards;
● Understanding of basic radio frequency principles including power measurements & RF propagation;
● Familiarity with the Windows® operating system and associated office software products (Word, Excel, email);
● Valid driver's license and driving record abstract will be required – please note that there will be a significant amount of driving required;
● Understanding of the mobile communications industry;
● A high level of problem solving and organizational skills required;
● Previous experience as field tester, product validation or field testing with CDMA devices.
